Every third Sunday of January is designated as National Sanctity of Human Life Sunday.
This year that will be Sunday, January 15.
All Christians need to be involved to stop this horrible practice of abortion. Pray this month especially for the mothers who have this choice to make. To God there is only one available choice.
What is the value of human life?
Human beings derive their value not from man’s view of man, but
from God’s view of us. Scripture reveals the startling truth that the
Sovereign Creator of the universe cherishes each of us as individuals and
humankind as a whole.
Genesis 1:27 tells us that we are created in the image of God and
therefore are set apart as unique among created beings. Though
we have sinned and broken the covenant that God established with his
people, God has not broken his covenant with us. Instead he sent to us
his own Son, into the womb of a virgin, to identify with us from before
we are born. Jesus was born and lived humbly upon the earth, though
he was the King of Kings. He died a terrible death, crucified on a cross,
becoming the atoning sacrifice for our sin. The shed blood of Jesus
Christ purchased our salvation, proving once for all that God is committed
to humankind in an extraordinary way.
The church, as the Body of Christ on this earth, ought to demonstrate
that same extraordinary commitment to life, including the
most vulnerable, those yet in the womb or advanced in age and those
who are unable to speak for themselves or to live in a way that society
would identify as ‘productive.’ We are cherished by God at every stage
and in every circumstance of our development. As Christ followers we
are called to demonstrate that same cherishing love to each person we
encounter regardless of their size, location, or ability.
